The first weekend at the Jazz and Heritage Festival is a wrap and the Magical Mobile Art Cart is a hit! We facilitated weaving, printmaking, and painting activities over the course of three days at Jazz Fest this weekend.

Working collaboratively and independently children and their families were welcomed to make art with us in our interactive installation located in the Peace Garden. We received so much positive feedback from our visitors! Over the course of the weekend we found that our programming offered families a break from the crowds and noise and a chance to reflect and create while at the festival. Many parents expressed gratitude for the calming atmosphere and retreat we created through the Magical Mobile Art Cart. The space offered room to freely explore different activities and mediums for creative expression.

On Sunday we provided natural materials and paint for children to work collaboratively on larger driftwood talking sticks, or independently painting mini artifacts on twigs.

Throughout the weekend we offered the opportunity for children to experiment in fiber art, working on creating Gods Eyes, or weaving on our collaborative earth loom.

We had several Jazz Fest appointed volunteers on deck to aid in facilitating and distributing supplies to participants. Parents also provided support for their children as they worked on their projects.

We offered a printmaking activity using gel printing plates and stencil supplies to visitors on Saturday. Even our volunteer that claimed to not have strength in art enjoyed success using the materials provided.

The Magical Mobile Art Cart demonstrated its ability to deliver diverse, high quality art programming to the festival in an organized way. The transitions were seamless and the stocked shelves were prepared to accommodate all attendees needs for successfully completing activities.

It was lovely to be a witness to different families interacting with one another and sharing in the joy of freely making while at the festival!

We’re looking forward to next weekend when we’ll be back on Thursday through Sunday to deliver art activities for the duration of the festival!
