A letter from the Executive Director:

As I reflect on the end of year and make preparations for the year ahead I wanted to express my sincere gratitude for all the support we’ve received in our first year of operation. It’s been one year since my family took stewardship of the Galvez Garden and what a phenomenal year it has been! Though we only earned our official 501c(3) in May, we have achieved a great deal since then.

Successes include completing our inaugural Artist-In-Residency and the creation of “The Galvez Garden Community Shrine” by Anna K. Lemnitzer, receiving training and funding to make a call for public art in support of local culture bearers in the fall of 2023, undergoing pro bono evaluation services to strengthen our educational outreach programs, gaining community partnerships with the New Orleans Public Library to offer our educational programming in 2023, and, receiving a grant from Entergy to build our Magical Mobile Art Cart this Spring.

In a very short amount of time we have secured enough funds from enough supporters to offer our programming to the community -free of charge- into next year and beyond. Our donors have positioned us to be uniquely capable of building a creative network of makers for a more sustainable New Orleans. For that, I am truly thankful.

With gratitude,
Lissie Stewart
Executive Director
