The Incubator Awarded Funds to Install a Shipping Container at Galvez Garden

We are pleased to share that the Incubator has been selected as a beneficiary of the New Orleans Community Urban Agriculture Micro Grant Fund. Funds awarded will be used to install a Customized Shipping Container at Galvez Garden.

A multi-purpose shipping container can serve as a point of access for various farming activities, making it easier for community members to participate and utilize the garden’s resources. The storage container could be modified to serve the farm’s specific operations and used to offer a space for workshops, events, and educational programs.  The addition of the multi-use shipping containers will enhance community involvement and promote urban agriculture skills among residents as we would use it as additional space for our outreach and education. In addition to offering shelter for gardening supplies, the container will serve as a protected area for activities during adverse weather conditions.

We plan to work with NOLA Container Development, a local, family owned operation with experience in customizing and delivering shipping containers for multiple purposes. The shipping container will provide storage space, gather space, harvesting space, and serve as a rain catchment and watering system for our garden.

Currently the location where the shipping container will be located has approximately 30 cubic yards of mulch, some vegetation, and our original sculpture, the Galvez Garden Community Shrine, created by Anna K. Lemnitzer. Much work will go into making the site ready for the new addition.

Last week Nolan and Max took time away from their farm to come by and help us move mulch in preparation for the new infrastructure at our site.

Volunteers are welcomed to join us in preparing the site at our 5th Annual Love the Boot at Galvez Garden event, this Sunday from 10:00 to noon. Hope to see you there!
