We had the most amazing start to our summer Budding Artists Program today! All our learners were so excited to read about flowers at our story time and learn that: flowers are pretty, weird. We read the book of the same title and then made our own flowers. The twist? We painted with bubbles!

Our little learners were given a mixture of soap, food grade dye, water, and straws and were challenged to create by blowing bubbles. All students had precut circles of water color paper and dyeable envelopes to practice their technique before making their final project.

The procedure was fun and straightforward: blow bubbles and use them to dye a texture onto a piece of paper. The process included discovering what printed and how to use the resulting imagery to create an artistic composition.

Children were given glue, paper leaves, pom-poms, and colored paper to layout the dyed paper however they wanted. This is when the young artists could really express their creativity. It was wonderful to witness the unique works take shape and no two images were the same!

While the program is designed to create sustainable art and literacy experiences focused on nature with children and their caregivers; most importantly, Budding Artists Summer Programming is a safe place for families to bond, while learning new skills and concepts. We loved how today’s art project brought smiles to everyone’s faces.

Be sure not to miss next week’s program at the Nora Navra branch. We’ll be using balloons and recycled paper to create paper machete sculptures. See you there!
