Larry Frates to Host “Nature Inspires Art” Workshop at Galvez Garden

Larry Frates, Creative Arts Consultant and Teaching Artist of Prescott Farm, will be facilitating a workshop in which participants will be making ink and brushes from natural materials to create ink drawings at Galvez Garden. This collaboration between Prescott Farm and the NOLA Artist Incubator is rooted in goals to support artists and the creation of more artwork that encourages others to respect our natural world. The workshop at Galvez Garden, held the first Saturday after Mardi Gras, will be filmed and shared with participants at the farm in New Hampshire.

“We hope this collaboration encourages others to work together for shared goals of environmental stewardship, while advocating for the value of arts to create a broader network of makers for a more sustainable future.” said Lissie Stewart, Executive Director of the Incubator.

Concluding the workshop in New Orleans, Frates will deliver the same programming at Prescott Farm with a different group of artists. Works created by all participants will be shared in an online gallery and through recorded videos of the events.

Prescott Farm

Prescott Farm is dedicated to providing year-round environmental education programs for all ages and a place in the Lakes Region community that encourages curiosity, discovery, fun and connection to the natural world.

“For our participants it’s an opportunity to see how a similar mission is being carried out in different landscape and environment,” said Sophia Acampora, the communications and event director of Prescott Farm. “I hope it broadens their perspective on what “nature” means. At the same time this puts Prescott Farm on the radar of a whole new audience in Mew Orleans, creating a wonderful cross pollination of ideas”.

At Prescott Farm, visitors are invited to explore the wonders of the natural world through hands-on learning experiences that provide opportunities to make meaningful connections to nature, sustainable food practices, gardening, and New Hampshire’s rich crafts and traditions. By bridging New Hampshire’s rural heritage with a vision for a healthier environmental future, the farm believes that people who connect deeply with nature are more inspired to care for it and protect it.

“I hope this collaboration encourages more people to learn about everything we do here at Prescott Farm” Acampora stated.

“It’s an example of how you can be in different places, but the arts can bring you together for a common reason,” Frate said of the collaboration. “It will give both communities a different cultural experience.”

Larry hopes to share footage of the collaboration on his “Art to You with Larry” program on Lakes Region Public Access.
