Tiny Terrariums Workshop: A Green Thumb Gathering at Rosa Keller

Today marked the inaugural Tiny Terrariums workshop, held in collaboration with the New Orleans Public Library and proudly sponsored by the Friends of New Orleans Public Library. This engaging program brought together plant enthusiasts and curious minds alike, eager to delve into the art of creating miniature ecosystems.

Participants were greeted by NOLA Artist Incubator staff, who shared a brief history of terrariums, the significance of the “Wardian Case”, and how its innovation allowed for the successful international transport of exotic plants, contributing to global botanical exploration.

From Victorian glass gardens to modern-day eco-friendly creations, the journey of terrariums highlights a blend of artistry and nature that continues to inspire.

Attendees got their hands dirty and had a variety of glassware to design and build their very own tiny terrariums. Using plants, bio charcoal, soil, pebbles, and decorative elements, each participant crafted a unique mini ecosystem, while gaining a deeper connection to the natural world.

While we had so much fun delivering this workshop, we are excited to share that there will be three more Tiny Terrariums workshops taking place throughout New Orleans in September and October. Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or a complete novice, these sessions are designed for adults looking to explore their green thumbs and enjoy a peaceful, creative experience.
