The NOLA Artist Incubator is pleased to welcome Suffolk’s Center for Community Engagement students on their upcoming Alternative Spring Break Trip to New Orleans.
This year, the trip will focus on racial justice, and will be bringing a group of 12 passionate students and 2 advisors who are eager to learn, serve, and contribute to the community in meaningful ways. Student Leader, Molly Gramm had this to say,
“We have been inspired by the important work your organization does in advocating for racial equity and justice, and we believe that our students could greatly benefit from collaborating with your team.”
Suffolk’s Center for Community Engagement (previously S.O.U.L.S.) was founded in 1997 to engage the Suffolk University community in meaningful service work.
The goal of the Alternative Spring Break is to immerse in the local community, understand the challenges and opportunities related to racial justice, and support local organization’s ongoing efforts through hands-on service and engagement.
As the NOLA Artist Incubator is committed to building a network of makers for a more equitable and sustainable New Orleans we are thrilled about the partnership. The project will provide a tour of Galvez Garden, discussion on food equity and green spaces in low income communities, and hands-on activities for students.
By creating a vibrant community space, Galvez Garden fosters dialogue and understanding among diverse groups, encouraging collaboration and respect. The garden hosts educational programs, workshops, and cultural events that celebrate multiculturalism while addressing systemic inequalities. Through partnerships with local and national organizations, Galvez Garden actively supports initiatives aimed at dismantling racial barriers, promoting inclusivity, and empowering marginalized voices. By cultivating not only plants but also a sense of belonging and equity, Galvez Garden exemplifies the power of community-driven efforts in advocating for a more just and equitable society.
We look forward to working in the garden and creating a new mural, inspired by inclusivity, at our site during their visit. To learn more about the Suffolk’s Center for Community Engagement visit:
