NOLA Artist Incubator Awarded $3,000 Grant from Home Depot Foundation to Support Community Garden Initiatives

The NOLA Artist Incubator is thrilled to announce that it has received a $3,000 grant from the Home Depot Foundation to further its mission of creating a network of makers for a more equitable and sustainable New Orleans. This generous funding will play a pivotal role in enhancing local initiatives, including the ongoing development of the Galvez Garden, a USDA People’s Garden located in St. Roch.

Funding from the Home Depot Foundation will be used to construct and install a protective fence around the Galvez Garden. This essential infrastructure will protect the garden, which has recently secured funding for the installation of a greenhouse. The greenhouse will enable the garden to expand its capacity for growing plants, providing fresh organic produce to share with community members for years to come.

“The support from the Home Depot Foundation is invaluable to our efforts in nurturing both the arts and the community,” said Lissie Stewart, M.Ed., Executive Director at the NOLA Artist Incubator. “With this grant and the help of Team Depot, we can ensure that the Galvez Garden continues to thrive as a source of nourishment, education, and creativity for our neighborhood.”

The Galvez Garden is dedicated to cultivating not only plants but also community relationships. By providing fresh, organic food and gardening education, the garden aims to foster a sense of belonging and sustainability among local residents. The new fence will protect the new greenhouse, allowing the garden to expand programming and continue its mission of of serving as a demonstration garden for the community.

The NOLA Artist Incubator and the Galvez Garden invite all community members to visit and participate in upcoming events, workshops, and volunteer opportunities. Together, we can grow a brighter future for St. Roch.
