The NOLA Artist Incubator has welcomed its current Artist-in-Residence, Lilith Dorsey, who recently hosted their first workshop at the Galvez Garden. Participants were invited to explore the fascinating world of terrariums with the writer and Voodoo Priestess and created their own cemetariums.

Lilith Dorsey, known for their cultural storytelling and knowledge of plants, took participants on a journey through the history of terrariums. They shared insights about how these miniature ecosystems have captivated people for centuries, serving as a reflection of our relationship with nature. As Halloween approaches, Dorsey added a thrilling twist to this traditional craft: they introduced the concept of “cemetariums.”

During the workshop, Dorsey provided all the necessary materials, allowing attendees to unleash their creativity by designing their own cemetariums—miniature, graveyard-themed landscapes—that celebrate the season and honor the dead. Participants not only learned about the art of creating these small worlds but also engaged in a hands-on experience that fostered community and artistic expression.

The event was a delightful blend of education and creativity, encouraging participants to connect with nature and explore their artistic instincts. As Dorsey continues their residency, there’s no doubt that their workshops will inspire many more to embrace the beauty of nature-based art, especially in the enchanting ambiance of the community garden.

Stay tuned for more updates about upcoming workshops from Lilith Dorsey and the NOLA Artist Incubator as they continue to celebrate creativity and community in the Crescent City!
