Art in Park

10 Artists, 1 Day, 10 Artworks

Save the date! The NOLA Artist Incubator and the Audubon Louisiana Nature Center will be hosting Art in the Park, Saturday September 16th. From 9:30- 3:30 10 Louisiana based artists will take over the Audubon Louisiana Nature Center to create en plein air paintings at the park. The ten artists will have one day to start and complete their paintings. After extending a call for artists across the state, the 2023 Art in the Park Cohort was selected through a highly competitive process. We are thrilled to see what these talented artists create over the course of the one day public art event.

We encourage artists, families, art and nature lovers to come and witness a day of painting and enjoying the 86 acres of mixed forest habitat and wetlands that the nature center has to offer. Following an extended closure, due to Hurricane Katrina and the rebuilding process, the Nature Center reopened in 2017. It is the goal of the organization that by documenting and creating a collection of the post Katrina reconstruction of the Audubon Nature Center, we can reflect on our roles in environmental stewardship, preservation, and sustainability. The collection will invite audience participation and discussion about sustaining nature in urbanized areas and the conflicts associated with New Orleans’ unique relationship with the wetlands and river.
