This week our Executive Director wraps up her first month as Artist-in-Resident at the Louisiana Children’s Museum.

After spending the last two weeks with summer campers, the studio is once again open to the public and Lissie is starting a new collaborative art project. The Art and Entomology project invites visitors to create their own insect to ultimately be used in the creation of a “bug collection” to be hung in the Dig into Nature exhibit in the museum.

Children have access to a light box to examine insect skeletons, reading materials, laminated images, and real preserved insects to reference as they create. The museum also has magnify glasses to use, making this a real exploratory project for children to engage in the subjects.

The kids and their caregivers seemed to love the activity and we’re excited to see the “bug box” that Lissie will create to display all of their work. She’ll be facilitating the program on Wednesdays and Thursdays through the month of July and for the duration of her residency. Check out all the great insects that the children created today!

We love witnessing youth exploring topics on nature through the arts and are thrilled our Executive Director will help create and curate a piece to be on public display at the museum. The kids are so excited to see their work hanging in the Dig into Nature exhibit and so are we!

Be sure to stop by in July and see their creations in the Studio in the Park, located on the second floor of the museum.
