Executive Director, Lissie Stewart, started her Summer Artist-in-Residency at the Louisiana Children’s Museum to today. For the next two months she’ll be working at the Studio in the Park on the second floor of the museum.

Her project, “How Does Your Garden Grow?” aims to work with children exploring themes in nature and also creating art to go inside the gardens at the LCM.

As listed at the LCM, Lissie’s Artist in Residency Objectives are as follows:
“I plan to investigate themes in nature and create inviting, interactive planting areas in the studio. Learners can participate in creating an installation bringing the outside environment inside, and; examine plant life cycles by planting seeds, propagating plants, and documenting growth through observational drawings of our indoor garden. We will also explore beneficial insects by creating collaborative mixed media artwork. In addition, we will be making garden art to be placed among the existing gardens at the museum. As part of the Summer Residency, I will spend time working in the garden, adding artifacts created in the studio to the museum’s outdoor space.”

Her artist facilitation hours are scheduled for Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10:00- noon. She’ll spend the duration of Saturday’s curating the work created by children and creating new pieces to be collaboratively developed in subsequent sessions.
Join us in congratulating our Executive Director for this distinguished position and continuing artistic development!
